The Boston Red Sox recently secured manager Alex Cora’s services through 2027, but Cora revealed that the contract could have been longer.
During an interview on WEEI’s “Jones & Mego with Arcand,” Cora explained why he opted for a shorter extension. He cited his family, particularly his twin sons, who recently turned seven, as a major factor in his decision.
Cora emphasized the importance of being present for his children as they grow up, acknowledging that in three years, when his sons are 10, the family’s circumstances might change.
Cora also mentioned that a five-year commitment felt too long given the uncertainties surrounding his family’s future. Despite his dedication to the Red Sox, Cora made it clear that his first priority is his family, the “Cora-Felicianos.” He emotionally underscored the significance of his sons in his life, indicating that their well-being influenced his decision to choose a shorter extension.
Cora has a strong history with the Red Sox, having managed the team to a World Series victory in 2018 and having won another as a player in 2007.
