Arsenal is closely watching the transfer situation of Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer, with potential complications surrounding his desired move to Juventus.

According to Fabrizio Romano via the Daily Briefing, the Gunners see Calafiori as a viable option, especially given the uncertainty of his transfer to Juventus.

Calafiori, who impressed in Serie A last season, has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Arsenal. Despite his preference for a move to Juventus, a strained relationship between Bologna and Juventus—stemming from Thiago Motta’s managerial shift between the clubs—could complicate matters.

Motta, who moved to Juventus after managing Bologna, is keen on reuniting with the talented left-back, but the aftermath of Italy’s exit from the Euro 2024 campaign opens the door for Premier League interest.

Romano reports that Bologna hopes to spark a bidding war for the 22-year-old, as they anticipate increased interest from English clubs now that Italy’s tournament run is over. While Arsenal is not yet in formal negotiations, they are monitoring developments closely.

Chelsea is also in the market for a left-footed center-back and has scouted Calafiori, indicating potential competition for his signature.

Bologna’s strategy appears to involve leveraging the situation to drive up Calafiori’s price, capitalizing on interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea.

With Juventus still holding an agreement with the player, the coming weeks could see intense competition as Premier League clubs consider entering the race for Calafiori. As Arsenal evaluates their defensive options, Calafiori’s situation remains one to watch, potentially shaping the transfer landscape this summer.
