Arsenal has decided to prevent defender William Saliba from participating in the upcoming Olympic Games with France this summer.
Le Parisien reports that the club has no intention of allowing Saliba to join the U23 squad for the tournament.
The French newspaper highlights that several senior French players, including Antoine Griezmann, are unlikely to participate in the Olympics.
Griezmann, who has expressed his desire to join the squad for over a year, faces opposition from Atletico Madrid, who have consistently blocked his participation.
Similarly, Thierry Henry, the coach of the French Olympic team, will not be able to count on players involved in Euro 2024.
Saliba, included in the initial group for the Olympics, will be “blocked by Arsenal” from joining and will thus miss the Games in Paris. Instead, he will focus on Euro 2024 in Germany, aligning with Arsenal’s insistence on prioritizing the European championship.
There is no indication whether Saliba will attempt to change Arsenal’s decision, as Griezmann is doing with Atletico Madrid.
However, for now, it appears Arsenal is firm on allowing Saliba to participate in only one major tournament this summer, prioritizing the Euros over the Olympics.
