Eduard Romeu FC Barcelona Vice president of the economic area, has resigned.

This resignation isn’t Romeu’s first attempt; he previously sought to resign in the summer of 2023 due to concerns about the club’s economic trajectory and internal management issues within the board.

Initially appointed as an emergency VP, Romeu’s position was facilitated by his superior at Audax, who provided crucial financial backing for Joan Laporta’s campaign, enabling his endorsement with a €40 million investment.

While Romeu managed to acclimate to his role and the board, tensions with Ferran Olive, the treasurer, intensified over time, resulting in internal power struggles.

Despite these challenges, Romeu played a central role in orchestrating FC Barcelona’s debt restructuring, securing significant funding from entities like Goldman Sachs and negotiating a substantial loan for projects like Espai Barça and the new Camp Nou.

His departure leaves a void in the club’s administration, compounded by recent resignations, including that of Corporate Director Maribel Melendez.

The exodus of key figures under Laporta’s tenure, now totaling ten resignations, signals a period of instability for the club’s leadership.

As FC Barcelona braces for the transfer window, Juan Laporta faces mounting pressure to navigate these challenges swiftly.

Failure to address the upheaval within the administration could jeopardize his tenure, potentially leading to a tumultuous conclusion for his Barcelona presidency.

Urgent action is imperative to prevent further destabilization and secure the club’s financial future.
