Bayern Munich is reportedly open to selling their star midfielder Joshua Kimmich this summer.

This marks a considerable shift in the German club’s stance as they had previously been reluctant to let go of the 29-year-old, who is currently playing for Germany in the European Championship.

Kimmich, who has been pivotal for both club and country, played in all three group stage matches at the home tournament, helping Germany secure a spot in the last-16 with a recent draw against Switzerland.

Over the season, he has made 46 competitive appearances, contributing significantly in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.

During the Bundesliga campaign, Kimmich scored eight goals in 28 matches and added three more goal contributions in 12 Champions League games.

His contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in 2025, and with no renewal in sight, the club is now considering selling him to avoid losing him for free next year.

Manchester City’s interest in Kimmich

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has identified Kimmich as a key target to reinforce their midfield for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Kimmich’s versatility allows him to play in both defensive and advanced midfield roles, offering a potential solution to City’s concerns over Rodri’s fatigue and burnout.

Kimmich’s career in the Bundesliga began with stints at VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig before joining Bayern Munich in 2015.

His consistent performance has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

Florian Plettenberg, a reliable source on the matter, suggests that Bayern Munich is now ‘willing to sell’ Kimmich, who is prepared to enter the final year of his contract without an extension.

Concrete discussions about his future are expected to take place after the European Championship. While a transfer this summer is highly likely, Kimmich’s departure next year remains a possibility if an immediate deal isn’t reached.

Complicating matters, Kimmich does not have an agent, which could affect the negotiation process.

Manchester City is also reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich regarding potential transfers involving Bernardo Silva and Sergio Gomez, indicating Mutual interest from both clubs and busy transfer window ahead.
