Bayer Leverkusen will be crowned Bundesliga Champions on Sunday if they triumph victorious over Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich thwarted Bayer Leverkusen’s imminent title celebrations with a hard-fought victory over Cologne.

The defending champions displayed resilience, ensuring that Leverkusen’s coronation as German champions would have to wait at least another day.

The first half saw Bayern’s frustration mount as England captain Harry Kane and Mathys Tel both struck the post, highlighting the intensity of the encounter.

With just one point needed to stave off relinquishing their crown, Bayern intensified their efforts, ultimately finding success through goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller.

The triumph leaves Bayern trailing Leverkusen by 13 points with five games remaining, setting the stage for a potential title decider.

Leverkusen, under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, stand on the brink of history, poised to claim their maiden Bundesliga title with a victory over Werder Bremen on Sunday.

Bayern’s dominance in German football has been unparalleled, boasting an impressive streak of 11 successive top-flight titles since Borussia Dortmund’s triumph in 2011-12.

However, their grip on the trophy appears to be slipping, with Leverkusen’s ascent signaling a potential changing of the guard.

Guerreiro’s strike from 25 yards, following Joshua Kimmich’s well-delivered corner, broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, while Muller’s late goal in stoppage time sealed Cologne’s fate.

Leverkusen, once languishing in the relegation zone before Alonso’s tenure in October 2022, now find themselves on the cusp of a remarkable treble.

Bayern Leverkusen’s tremble chase on course.

Having secured a spot in the German Cup final against Kaiserslautern and boasting a 2-0 lead in their Europa League quarter-final clash against West Ham, Leverkusen’s resurgence has captivated football enthusiasts worldwide.

A victory against Werder would see them etch their name in Bundesliga history, setting a new record for the most games unbeaten from the start of a season.
