Bayern Munich is at a critical juncture in their pursuit of Fulham’s midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Despite their strong interest, the Bavarian giants are hesitant to meet Fulham’s high valuation, putting the deal in jeopardy. However, Bayern has not been left without options.

According to Florian Plettenberg, as relayed by iMiaSanMia on X (formerly Twitter), Bayern has identified Everton’s Amadou Onana as a potential alternative should the Palhinha deal fall through.

Onana, who is currently competing with Belgium at EURO 2024, has caught the eye of Bayern Munich’s scouts. Belgium is in a highly competitive group, with their future in the tournament hinging on their match against Ukraine. For now, Onana’s focus remains on leading his national team to the knockout stages. Post-tournament, he will contemplate his future at the club level.

The Belgian midfielder is no stranger to transfer interest from top European clubs. Barcelona and Arsenal have also shown interest in acquiring Onana from Everton, making Bayern’s task of securing his signature more challenging.

Bayern’s recent history of heavy spending in transfer windows may necessitate looking at alternatives like Onana if they are unable to match Fulham’s demands for Palhinha.

Bayern Munich continues to strategically navigate the transfer market, aiming to bolster their midfield without engaging in costly bidding wars. The club’s pragmatic approach is crucial in ensuring they remain competitive both financially and on the pitch. As the transfer window progresses, Bayern fans eagerly await who will ultimately reinforce their midfield for the upcoming season.
