Manchester United have shown interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand, but acquiring him won’t be easy or cheap.
Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his midfield options, and Hjulmand, who impressed during Sporting’s championship-winning season, has caught his eye.
The Danish midfielder only recently joined Sporting from Lecce and signed a contract with an €80 million (£67.3 million) release clause. Sporting’s manager, Ruben Amorim, considers Hjulmand ‘untouchable,’ meaning United must pay the full release clause to secure his transfer.
United’s pursuit of Hjulmand is further complicated by their limited budget, exacerbated by the £40 million already spent on Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
This financial constraint might force United to offload players like Casemiro to afford Hjulmand. Despite these challenges, United remains keen on bolstering their midfield, highlighting the need for strategic player sales to fund new acquisitions.
