This year’s Hong Kong Open will be a highlight on the women’s tennis calendar, featuring some of the sport’s biggest names.
Notably, two separate events are scheduled: a WTA 125 tournament from September 30 to October 6, and a WTA 250 tournament from October 28 to November 3.
The latter event will see British Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu headline the roster. Her participation, confirmed by the Hong Kong and China Tennis Association (HKCTA), is eagerly anticipated, especially as the WTA 250 event promises intense competition. Also joining Raducanu are Olympic silver medalist Wang Xinyu from China, Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, and American Danielle Collins.
HKCTA President Michael Cheng emphasized the significance of these tournaments, noting that Hong Kong is one of only three Asian cities to host both ATP and WTA events.
The introduction of a WTA 125 event, he added, presents a unique opportunity for emerging local talents to compete on an international stage. Alongside the women’s events, an ATP 250 tournament will also take place, adding further prestige to Hong Kong’s tennis calendar. This year, Fernandez will defend her WTA 250 title, which she won last year after a five-year hiatus for the tournament.
