Atlanta Braves outfielder Ramón Laureano faced criticism from his manager, Brian Snitker, after making critical errors in a 3-2 loss to the New York Mets.
In the top of the tenth inning, Laureano attempted to steal home on a bunt attempt but was caught in a rundown after the Mets anticipated the play. This mistake, deemed “unacceptable” by Snitker, was particularly frustrating because it thwarted a scoring opportunity.
Snitker expressed his frustration, stating:
“I don’t know what that was. Quite honestly, you’ll have to ask him. I didn’t have anything on. We normally don’t bunt in that situation, but I was trying to score a run. We had two pretty good hitters coming up. That’s unacceptable.”
Additionally, Laureano’s misjudgment of a fly ball from Jeff McNeil led to the game-winning run for the Mets. While Snitker found this fielding error “unfortunate,” he didn’t reprimand Laureano as harshly for it.
Laureano acknowledged his mistakes post-game, admitting he misinterpreted the signal for a squeeze play and took responsibility for letting his team down.
The Braves, enduring their fifth consecutive loss, showed visible frustration, with Snitker’s public critique highlighting the tension within the team.
