Arsenal has extended the contract of Veteran Midfielder for one more season.

Arsenal has officially extended the contract of their seasoned midfield maestro at the Emirates Stadium.

Jorginho, a former Champions League victor with Chelsea, has become a linchpin in Mikel Arteta‘s squad since his arrival in January 2023.

With 51 appearances across various tournaments, he’s notched one goal and three assists, earning acclaim for his composed displays in the midfield.

Notably, his recent standout performances against Newcastle United and Liverpool have showcased his prowess in the deep-lying midfield role, allowing teammate Declan Rice to excel further up the pitch.

Jorginho signs new contract extension with Arsenal.

Negotiations for the extension proceeded smoothly, resulting in a one-year deal until 2025, devoid of an extension clause.

Jorginho signs one year contract extension offer.

“We’re delighted that Jorgi has signed a new contract with us. Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch,” Arteta told arsenal.com.

“We’re very pleased that Jorgi and his family have committed with us and we’re all excited to continue this journey together.”

Meanwhile, sporting director Edu added: “We’re very happy to have Jorgi sign a contract extension with us. He represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success.

“I know everyone at the club will be very excited that Jorgi will continue to be with us, not only the players and coaches, but all the staff behind the scenes as well. It’s great that Jorginho remains with us, as we continue building to be better and stronger.”

However, Jorginho’s renewed tenure arrives amidst reduced playing time, as he has ceded his starting spot to the returning Thomas Partey.

Despite potential concerns mirroring last year’s extension for Mohamed Elneny, who saw limited game time thereafter, Jorginho’s influence remains significant.

While his role may diminish next season, Arsenal’s decision reflects the value he brings, albeit amidst efforts to secure a new defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.
