The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver, Michael Gallup, has unexpectedly retired at the age of 28, having only been with the team for a few months.
Known primarily for his time with the Dallas Cowboys, Gallup’s sudden decision comes as a surprise to many.
The Raiders have had a series of notable events regarding their wide receivers recently. They chose not to re-sign Hunter Renfrow in free agency, and there has been speculation about Davante Adams wanting to reunite with Aaron Rodgers. Amidst this, the team signed Gallup in April to add depth to their roster.
However, NFL insider Ari Meriov reported that Gallup is retiring, and the Raiders placed him on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday. Drafted by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Gallup recorded 266 receptions for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns in his career.
Fans reacted with shock to the news, expressing their admiration for Gallup’s contributions to the game despite his injuries. His retirement marks the end of an era for a player who made significant impacts during his tenure in the NFL.
