Guerschon Yabusele has emerged as an unexpected star for Team France during the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning widespread recognition for his performance in the men’s basketball tournament.

Averaging 12.8 points per game, Yabusele has become the second-highest scorer on the team, trailing only behind the 7-foot-4 sensation, Victor Wembanyama. His impressive contributions were on full display when he scored a team-high 22 points in France’s surprising victory over Canada in the quarterfinals.

Yabusele continued his exceptional form in the semifinal against Germany, where he once again led his team with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, along with seven rebounds, propelling France to the gold medal game.

Despite not playing in the NBA since 2019 after being waived by the Boston Celtics, who drafted him 16th overall in 2016, Yabusele hinted at a possible NBA comeback following his stellar Olympic performance.

Smiling, he told The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn,”You gotta tell (the Celtics) to bring me back.”

Although a return to the Celtics seems unlikely due to their stacked roster and the five-year gap since his last NBA appearance, Yabusele’s fans are thrilled to see him making his mark internationally.

Over the past three seasons, he has played for Real Madrid, helping the team secure two Liga ACB titles and a EuroLeague championship. Last season, Yabusele averaged 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game with Real Madrid, showcasing his continued development as a player.
