During an introductory press conference on Tuesday, Bronny James, recently drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, addressed questions about his early departure from USC and the influence of his father, LeBron James, on his career decisions.

Despite widespread speculation that LeBron’s presence on the team played a significant role in the Lakers drafting his son, Bronny downplayed this narrative.

When asked about his decision to leave USC despite an underwhelming freshman season, Bronny emphasized his desire to establish his own identity in the NBA.

“For me, I always try to put that narrative [aside],” he said. “Trying to get my name out myself. … I’ve never really had a thought of me going to play with my dad. That’s always there … but it wasn’t a main focus of mine.”

His remarks were met with skepticism on social media, with many fans expressing disbelief that Bronny had never considered playing alongside his father, especially given LeBron’s public enthusiasm about the possibility.

Some users on X (formerly Twitter) questioned the honesty of Bronny’s statement, suggesting he was not being forthright about his motivations.

Despite the mixed reactions, it was evident that Bronny was somewhat nervous in front of the media. As the son of one of the greatest basketball players of all time, his rookie season will undoubtedly be closely scrutinized, and he will face many challenging questions along the way.

In the same press conference, Lakers’ second-round pick Dalton Knecht was also introduced. However, much of the attention remained on Bronny, underscoring the intense interest and high expectations surrounding his entry into the NBA.

As Bronny prepares for his first professional season, the narrative of his relationship with his father and his own path in the league will continue to unfold, likely remaining a focal point of discussion among fans and analysts alike.
