The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday a three-year contract extension for Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
The extension, coming after a standout 2023 season where he led the team in tackles, was revealed on the same day that rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. returned to practice, just one day after being arrested on domestic violence charges.
Hall, a second-round pick from Ohio State, was taken into custody following an alleged incident where he reportedly threatened his fiancée with a handgun, pressing it against her temple.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, which include a $10,000 bond and a scheduled hearing on September 10, Hall is back with the team and is expected to participate in joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings.
The team’s swift move to extend Owusu-Koramoah’s contract was seen by some as an attempt to overshadow the negative attention surrounding Hall’s situation.
Safety Rodney McLeod Jr. emphasized the team’s support for Hall, describing the Browns as a “family” that is committed to understanding the situation before taking further action. Meanwhile, the NFL has stated that Hall’s conduct will be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy.
