The Cleveland Browns have confirmed that star running back Nick Chubb will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season as he remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Chubb, who suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Week 2 of the 2023 season, has been making steady progress in his recovery, but the team has been adamant about not rushing him back onto the field until he is fully recovered.
Despite this cautious approach, there was speculation among fans and even some optimism from Chubb himself that he could return for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. However, the recent decision to keep him on the PUP list means that Chubb will not be eligible to play until at least Week 5.
In Chubb’s absence, the Browns will rely on Jerome Ford and newly acquired D’Onta Foreman to carry the load in the backfield.
Ford, who stepped in last season after Chubb’s injury, finished the year with 813 rushing yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his potential as a dynamic playmaker. However, he struggled with consistency, particularly in short-yardage situations. Foreman, a powerful 235-pound back, was brought in during the offseason to add strength and reliability to the Browns’ rushing attack, particularly in those challenging situations.
With Chubb sidelined, the Browns’ offense will need to adjust quickly as they navigate the early part of the season without their premier running back. The team is hopeful that Chubb will be able to return later in the year and provide the spark they need for a strong finish.
