Fabian Lysell, a Boston Bruins prospect, is gearing up for his second preseason game as the team faces the Washington Capitals at TD Garden.

The 21-year-old Swedish forward, considered a potential candidate for the Bruins’ roster, struggled to make an impact during Sunday’s loss to the New York Rangers.

Lysell played nearly 15 minutes but failed to record a shot on goal. He had two attempts, one missing the net and another blocked by Rangers defenseman Victor Mancini. Lysell managed one hit but also registered two giveaways.

Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery acknowledged that he doesn’t know Lysell well enough to determine if he’s a slow starter, but he emphasized the need for Lysell to perform better if he wants to secure a spot on the team.

“He needs to do a little more than he’s done if he wants to make the Bruins,” Montgomery stated after a pregame skate on Tuesday.

Lysell will play alongside center Jaxon Nelson and left wing Riley Tufte. Despite showing development progress in July’s camp, Lysell still has to convince Montgomery that he’s ready for the NHL.
