In a recent interview on WFAN, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman faced tough questions from host Brandon Tierney regarding the perceived lack of urgency from the Yankees’ front office to win.

The conversation, which took place the day after the MLB trade deadline, centered on whether Cashman and owner Hal Steinbrenner truly feel the pressure to deliver a championship.

Tierney specifically criticized the extended opportunities given to underperforming players like Joey Gallo and Aaron Hicks in previous seasons, suggesting that these decisions reflect a diminished drive to win.

Cashman, however, firmly disagreed with Tierney’s assessment, defending the organization’s commitment to building a competitive team. He highlighted significant moves, including the re-signing of Aaron Judge, the acquisition of Gerrit Cole, and the recent trade for Juan Soto, as evidence of the Yankees’ dedication to winning.

Cashman also joked about needing a drug test to understand Tierney’s perspective, emphasizing that the team’s payroll and roster decisions demonstrate their continued ambition.

While Cashman’s defense is rooted in these high-profile acquisitions, the Yankees’ failure to reach the World Series since 2009 remains a point of contention. Cashman acknowledged that, ultimately, the success of the team’s recent moves will be judged by whether they can finally secure their 28th championship.
