The Dallas Cowboys are facing significant decisions regarding their star players as the 2024 season approaches.
Among those awaiting contract resolutions are quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and pass-rusher Micah Parsons, all entering the final year of their contracts with the franchise.
Prescott has agreed with the organization to postpone contract extension discussions, choosing to focus on the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Lamb and Parsons, who are in the fifth-year option of their rookie contracts, are eyeing lucrative long-term deals.
Lamb, notably, has been absent from the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs), suggesting a potential holdout.
Prescott, expressing his sentiments on Lamb’s absence, said:
“That’s my guy. Not many people out there are swaggier, cooler, or better players than that guy. So obviously you’re gonna miss him, miss having him around.” He added, “But I’ve been in this situation, it’s business, business is business. He’s got my support and I know the locker room’s support. That’s part of it. Hopefully, he’ll get all his and everything he deserves and is worth.”
Conversely, Parsons has confirmed his return to the squad this week after conducting individual training sessions, emphasizing the importance of mental and physical preparation.
Jeremy Fowler analysis over Ceedee Lamb contract situation.
On ESPN’s Friday edition of NFL coverage, insider Jeremy Fowler hinted at why Lamb has yet to commit to an extension with the Cowboys.
“CeeDee Lamb, a couple of things in play here. He could be waiting on Prescott. Dallas might need to prioritize a quarterback first.”
Fowler pointed out that Lamb might be strategically waiting for Minnesota Vikings’ star Justin Jefferson to finalize his contract.
Jefferson is anticipated to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, potentially setting a benchmark for Lamb’s negotiations.
“ Really, the whole league is waiting on him to get done: he could be the highest paid non-quarterback in the league when it’s all said and done for Minnesota.
So if he’s making $34 million a year and you’re CeeDee Lamb, you don’t wanna jump out yet, you wanna wait for him to do that and then circle back with Dallas,” Fowler explained.
As the Cowboys navigate these negotiations, the future of some of their key players remains uncertain.
The developments around Justin Jefferson’s contract could significantly influence Lamb’s decision, potentially leading to higher stakes for the Cowboys’ financial strategy.
