Despite initial skepticism from Croatian media, rumors of Dominik Livakovic joining Celtic have intensified.

Turkish outlet Fotomac reports that Fenerbahce has accepted a €9 million offer from Celtic for the high-profile goalkeeper.

Fenerbahce, having lost the Turkish Super Lig title to Galatasaray, has brought in Jose Mourinho as their new manager. Mourinho plans a series of high-profile signings, with Juventus’ Mattia Perin rumored to be heading to Istanbul to take up the ‘number 1’ spot vacated by Livakovic.

Livakovic, who had a challenging Euro 2024, is poised for a move after Fenerbahce’s disappointing season. The 29-year-old Croatian started his career at NK Zadar and NK Zagreb before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2016, where he became a key player both domestically and internationally.

His performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup caught the attention of Fenerbahce, leading to his €6.65 million transfer in 2023.

Celtic, seeking a successor to Joe Hart, sees Livakovic as an ideal candidate. With Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist as their current goalkeeping options, the addition of Livakovic would significantly strengthen their squad. Bain remains a backup, and Siegrist is expected to leave the club soon.

Rivals Rangers have already signed Liam Kelly, while Celtic’s cautious approach to the transfer market reflects their budget constraints. Despite the high fee, Livakovic’s experience and skill could prove invaluable for Celtic’s domestic and European ambitions. His potential signing promises to resolve Celtic’s goalkeeping issues and boost their competitive edge.
