The Boston Celtics have re-signed two crucial bench players, Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman Sr., on Tuesday, both of whom were instrumental in their recent NBA championship victory.
Luke Kornet, entering his third season with Boston, played in 63 games this year, averaging 5.3 points, a career-high 4.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and one block per game in 15.6 minutes during the regular season. He also participated in 13 playoff games.
Brad Stevens, President of Basketball Operations, praised Kornet’s contributions:
“Luke has been a key part of our team in recent years. He embodies the spirit of a great teammate, and his positive attitude has a significant impact on our group. On the court, Luke had his best season with the Celtics and played a crucial role in our championship run. We look forward to his continued contributions.”
Xavier Tillman Sr. joined the Celtics on February 7 through a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. This season, he played in 54 games, averaging 5.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 18 minutes per game.
Stevens remarked on Tillman’s impact:
“When Xavier arrived at the trade deadline, he brought with him a reputation as a winner and a fantastic teammate. Xavier is known for his hard work, toughness, and team-first mentality, qualities that we value greatly. We’re thrilled that Xavier has decided to return to the Celtics.”
In addition to retaining Kornet and Tillman, the Celtics have made significant roster moves following their 18th NBA title win. They signed Jayson Tatum to a record-breaking five-year, $314 million supermax extension and secured guard Derrick White with a four-year extension worth approximately $125 million.
