Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, missed the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur after shooting a 10-over 80 on Tuesday, totaling 22 over through two rounds.
The 15-year-old, who earned his spot in the 264-player field last month, finished near the bottom. The top 64 players advance to match play, starting Wednesday.
On the Oakland Hills South Course, dubbed “The Monster” by Ben Hogan, Charlie improved slightly from his opening 12-over 82 on the North Course. He started strong on Day 2, managing the challenge of teeing off before a crowd of about 500. He was 1 over through four holes when a storm halted play for over an hour. Upon resumption, he struggled, finishing the front nine at 8 over, including a triple bogey on the par-4 18th.
The tournament typically draws a few hundred fans, but the presence of Charlie and his famous father attracted a larger crowd. Tiger, who joined Charlie after his own disappointing British Open performance, was surrounded by a protective entourage as fans eagerly took photos. Despite his son’s struggles, Tiger remained mostly expressionless, whether Charlie’s shots were good or poor.
Charlie, soon to be a high school sophomore in Florida, qualified for the tournament by shooting a 1-under 71. Tiger, who won the U.S. Junior three times consecutively in the early 1990s, watched on, wearing shorts that exposed the scars from his car crash three years ago.
