Chelsea has reached a £54 million agreement to sign winger Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the PA news agency.
The 24-year-old Portuguese international, who joined Wolves from Braga in 2019, will move to Stamford Bridge for an initial fee of £51.4 million, with the potential for an additional £2.6 million in performance-related add-ons. Chelsea secured Neto’s signature despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Neto’s recent seasons have been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just 51 Premier League appearances over the past three years. However, he managed to regain fitness in time to participate in three of Portugal’s Euro 2024 qualifying matches this summer. One notable performance last season was during Wolves’ 4-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in February, where Neto assisted one of Matheus Cunha’s goals.
Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, has made Neto the club’s ninth signing since taking charge in June. This transfer further strengthens the squad as Chelsea aims to improve on last season’s sixth-place Premier League finish, which saw them qualify for the UEFA Conference League.
