Chelsea and a host of other European clubs are in a tight race to sign highly talented English left back, Archie Brown.
Several top clubs, including Chelsea and West Ham, are closely monitoring Archie Brown, a £15 million-rated defender from Gent. At just 21 years old, Brown is being considered as a potential left-back option for both London clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
In addition to Chelsea and West Ham, European giants Juventus, AC Milan, Nice, and Lyon are also showing interest in Brown, indicating that he is likely to be a sought-after player at the end of the season.
Chelsea’s interest in Brown stems from their need for cover for Ben Chilwell, especially with Marc Cucurella possibly leaving after being offered to clubs last summer.
Meanwhile, Ian Maatsen, who is available for a £35 million release clause in his new extended contract until 2026, is currently on loan at Dortmund. Additionally, Lewis Hall’s loan move to Newcastle is expected to become permanent for £28 million if all add-ons are met.
For West Ham, securing a deputy for Emerson Palmieri at left-back is a priority, especially with Aaron Cresswell, 34, nearly joining Wolves last summer and potentially considering a departure from the club this summer.
Brown’s journey in football took him from Derby County to Lausanne in 2021, and after two years at the Swiss club, he made the move to Belgian giants Gent.
The Birmingham-born winger-turned-left-back has featured in 31 matches this season, including eight appearances in the UEFA Conference League.
Chelsea’s priority in the next summer transfer window is to sign a striker, a central defender and a left back before the 2024/2025 premier league season kickoffs.
