Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is looking to maintain his excellent form as he represents Spain in Euro 2024, reflecting positively on his adapted role at the club and expressing his deep love for Chelsea.
After a challenging start at Stamford Bridge following his high-profile transfer from Brighton in 2022, Cucurella faced criticism and was even booed by fans during his first season.

However, a tactical adjustment by then-manager Mauricio Pochettino saw Cucurella shift into a midfield position when Chelsea had possession. This change revitalized his performance, transforming him into a fan favorite and earning him a spot in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad.
Discussing his new role, the 25-year-old Spaniard shared his enthusiasm:
“Changing my role has been nice,” Cucurella said on Chelsea’s official website. “I try to do whatever I can to help the side and if I play in more positions and it helps the team, I’m happy because I have more possibilities to play.”
Cucurella’s adaptability has been a significant asset. He played as a right-back earlier in the season, demonstrating his willingness to support the team in various capacities.
“Whenever I’m on the pitch, I’m happy to help out, but for sure I like to play this position [inverted left-back],” he added.
As he now focuses on Spain’s Euro 2024 campaign, Cucurella is also eager to continue his progress at Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca.
“I feel very good and I’m excited for the future with Chelsea,” Cucurella stated. “Playing football is one of the best things I can do in my life, and to play for this club is just amazing!”
Cucurella’s role under Maresca, who favors inverting full-backs, is anticipated to be crucial.
Chelsea supporters are hopeful that he will carry his stellar form into the upcoming season, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
