Former Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott
Ezekiel Elliott and Dallas cowboys has mutual interest in reunion

In a developing story that could see a familiar face return to AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly showing a keen interest in re-signing free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, both Elliott and the Cowboys are exploring the possibility of a reunion, though an official agreement has yet to be finalized.

Elliott’s potential return to Dallas comes after his commendable performance with the New England Patriots in the 2023 season.

Playing in all 17 regular-season games, Elliott saw his responsibilities increase significantly towards the season’s end, particularly after the Patriots’ leading rusher, Rhamondre Stevenson, was sidelined with a high-ankle sprain. The Cowboys are particularly impressed with how Elliott concluded the season.

Despite joining the Patriots on a one-year contract worth $3 million in August last year, Elliott, who celebrates his 29th birthday on July 22, has maintained a high level of play.

Over the course of the season, Elliott played 51% of the Patriots’ offensive snaps and led the team with 642 rushing yards on 184 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per carry, along with scoring three touchdowns.

He also topped the Patriots’ charts with 51 receptions for 313 yards and two additional touchdowns.

Elliott, standing at 6 feet and weighing 226 pounds, was initially drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft.

He has twice led the NFL in rushing yards (2016 and 2018) and is a three-time Pro Bowl selectee.

Throughout his career, Elliott has accumulated 8,904 rushing yards and 71 touchdowns, alongside 356 catches for 2,649 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.

His potential return to Dallas could mark a significant moment for both Elliott and the Cowboys as they look to bolster their offense for the upcoming season.
