Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was forced to leave the field in the fourth quarter of the Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints after a contentious hit by Saints offensive tackle Trevor Penning.

Penning’s block pushed Slay out of bounds, resulting in an injury that caused Slay to exit in visible pain. The Eagles won the game 15-12, but the aftermath sparked controversy.

Slay’s wife, Jennifer, took to social media to express her frustration with Penning. On X (formerly Twitter), she posted, “Penning…we got beef!! 😤😤😤,” making it clear she was upset about the incident.

The game saw multiple Eagles players suffer injuries, including wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who was hit by Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd after play had stopped. Smith remained on the field for several minutes and did not return to the game.

Pro Bowl offensive lineman Lane Johnson also exited with a concussion, and left guard Mekhi Becton suffered a finger injury.

Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson did not hold back his criticism, calling the hits “dirty” and stating that such behavior has no place in football. Despite the injuries, Gardner-Johnson, who was nursing his own foot injury, finished the game with eight tackles.
