Jamarco Jones has made his return to the NFL by signing with the Detroit Lions, as confirmed by his agency, AMDG Sports, on Saturday.
Jones, a former offensive lineman for Ohio State, will now join his ex-teammate Taylor Decker on the Lions’ offensive line.
Jones succeeded Decker as the starting left tackle for the Buckeyes in 2016. While Decker has solidified his position as the Lions’ starting left tackle and recently inked a three-year, $60 million contract extension, Jones faces a different challenge. He will be competing for a spot on the roster as a backup offensive lineman.
Jones’ return to the NFL comes after a year-long absence, during which he was released by the Tennessee Titans in August 2023 following multiple practice altercations. Previously, Jones was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, where he appeared in 36 games and made seven starts over four seasons.
However, after signing with the Titans in 2022, Jones never played in a game for the team. During his college career at Ohio State, Jones started all 27 games at left tackle in 2016 and 2017, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2017.
