Emma Raducanu has secured her spot in the main draw for the US Open after making her way back into the world’s top 100 for the first time in 15 months.

The 21-year-old’s strong performance at Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round before losing to Lulu Sun, played a significant role in her rise up the rankings by 41 places. This climb has ensured that Raducanu does not need a wildcard to compete in the US Open.

Raducanu, who stunned the world by winning the US Open three years ago, joins the main draw alongside other former champions. However, notable names like Bianca Andreescu and Angelique Kerber will require wildcards as they did not make the cut for the main draw of 96 players.

Andy Murray’s Fate

Andy Murray will need a wildcard to participate in the men’s draw, as his current ranking of 123 was not sufficient to secure a direct entry.

Murray has yet to confirm his participation in the US Open, having hinted at a possible retirement after the summer. The 37-year-old is set to represent Great Britain at the Olympics later this month, but his plans following the event remain uncertain. Murray has expressed that he might prefer to conclude his career at Wimbledon or the Olympic Games rather than at the US Open.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal has been included on the US Open entry list despite not confirming his participation.

The Spaniard, currently ranked 261st in the world, benefits from a protected ranking of ninth to secure his spot in the tournament. As the final Grand Slam of the year approaches, both Murray and Nadal will have to make their decisions, with the US Open set to begin in late August.
