Rangers‘ forward Sam Lammers will not be returning to FC Utrecht, according to journalist Jeroen Kapteijns.
Utrecht has secured a deal to sign Noah Ohio, who is set to be Lammers’ successor following the latter’s successful loan spell at the club.
Lammers, who is 27 years old, initially joined Rangers under Michael Beale. However, he struggled to adapt to Scottish football, quickly losing the support of fans and failing to win over Philippe Clement. Consequently, he was loaned to Utrecht, where he excelled, scoring ten goals in 18 appearances during the second half of the season.
Despite Utrecht’s interest in retaining Lammers, they were unable to meet the financial demands set by both the player and Rangers. This leaves Lammers’ future at Ibrox uncertain, with other clubs such as AZ Alkmaar reportedly showing interest.
Rangers Review mentioned on May 29 that Lammers is still likely to depart this summer. However, a permanent move to Utrecht is now off the table following their acquisition of Ohio from Standard Liège.
Rangers must now decide whether to hold firm on their valuation of Lammers or find a way to reintegrate him into the squad if no suitable offer is made. The club is keen not to sell for less than what they initially paid for Lammers a year ago. If no transfer materializes, it will be up to Clement to utilize Lammers effectively, ensuring that his talents are not wasted.
