The 2024 college football season marks a significant turning point for the Alabama Crimson Tide, as it will be the first time in 17 years that Nick Saban won’t be leading the team.
With only 19 days until the season kickoff, anticipation is high for Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach, as he takes the reins of one of the most storied programs in college football. This season also introduces an expanded College Football Playoff, now featuring 12 teams instead of four, a change that virtually guarantees Alabama a spot in the playoffs annually given their historical performance.
Despite some roster shakeups following Saban’s departure, including notable transfers like safety Caleb Downs to Ohio State and wide receiver Isaiah Bond to Texas, Alabama still boasts a roster filled with future NFL talent.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly has identified several Crimson Tide players as pivotal in the 2024 CFP race, including wide receiver Kobe Prentice, ranked No. 10, who is expected to emerge as a key player after showing flashes of brilliance in his first two years. Quarterback Jalen Milroe, ranked No. 4, is particularly critical, as his deep passing ability and potential make him one of the most intriguing players to watch this season.
While Alabama may not have the same target on their back as in previous years, the Crimson Tide is still expected to be a formidable force.
DeBoer’s leadership and the team’s depth of talent will be crucial as they aim to return to the final four of the College Football Playoff.
