Everton has reached an agreement with Lyon to include an obligation-to-buy clause in their loan deal for midfielder Orel Mangala.

This development, reported by David Anderson of the Daily Mirror, signifies that Everton will be required to secure Mangala on a permanent basis once his loan concludes next summer.

Initially, it was believed that Everton had the option to make the loan permanent, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. However, Anderson’s latest update indicates that Mangala might have already played his final match for Lyon, suggesting a more definitive move to Everton.

This move marks Everton’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window. Despite appearing to be heading towards a quieter end to the window, Everton’s poor start to the Premier League season has pushed manager Sean Dyche to seek reinforcements.

Mangala, who has prior Premier League experience with Nottingham Forest and was recently purchased by Lyon for £15 million, could bring much-needed stability to Everton’s midfield.

Additionally, Everton’s recent negotiations with Lyon and their owner John Textor may have influenced this transfer, strengthening ties between the two clubs. This deal also raises speculation about other potential signings, such as young winger Ernest Nuamah, who is also linked with a move to Everton.

With Mangala’s arrival, Everton aims to bolster their squad, particularly in the midfield, where Dyche is currently facing a shortage. His signing is seen as a strategic move to replace Amadou Onana, though the financial aspects of the deal could pose challenges.
