With key midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall moving to Chelsea and Amadou Onana expected to depart Everton after Euro 2024, both clubs are targeting the 24-year-old Portuguese international. Reports from Sport Witness indicate Luís, valued at £25.4m, is seen as a crucial addition for both sides.
Florentino Luís has become a mainstay in Benfica’s lineup since returning from loan spells at Monaco and Getafe. Over the past two seasons, he made 63 league appearances, contributing significantly to Benfica’s strong performances in the Portuguese top flight.
Known for his tough tackling and relentless pressing, Luís has drawn comparisons to N’Golo Kanté. His defensive prowess is highlighted by an average of 4.23 successful tackles and 2.63 interceptions per game last season.
Despite his defensive strengths, Luís’s offensive contributions are limited, with only one goal and five assists in 142 professional matches. However, his ability to control the midfield and disrupt opposition play makes him a valuable asset for teams battling relegation.
Leicester and Everton both need to enhance their defensive midfield options to secure their positions in the Premier League. While Luís’s contract with Benfica runs until 2027 with a hefty €120m release clause, the clubs hope to negotiate a more feasible deal.
