Everton recently made a new offer for midfielder Weston McKennie, but the deal is stalled due to wage demands.

Earlier in the summer, McKennie missed a chance to join Aston Villa as part of a swap deal involving Douglas Luiz, reportedly due to his high salary demands and a desire for a pay-off from his current club, Juventus.

McKennie, a US international, might have assumed Villa would meet his financial expectations, but the deal fell through, and he was excluded from the transfer.

Now, Calciomercato reports that Everton’s proposal is more attractive than previous offers. Despite this, Everton has not finalized any agreement, potentially due to McKennie’s salary requests.

Juventus is open to selling McKennie for €18 million, possibly even less, but his demand for a €5 million annual salary, likely after tax, remains a stumbling block. This figure is too high for clubs like Everton and other interested mid-tier teams.

McKennie’s missed opportunity with Aston Villa, which could have offered higher wages and Champions League football under Unai Emery, appears to be a significant regret.

To secure a move, McKennie may need to lower his wage expectations; otherwise, he might find himself looking towards options like the MLS.
