Paul Finebaum has expressed sharp criticism of Alabama Crimson Tide’s head coach Kalen DeBoer following their 24-3 defeat to unranked Oklahoma, marking a low point in the team’s season.
This year, Alabama has struggled under DeBoer, who succeeded legendary coach Nick Saban. After an impressive 4-0 start, including a major victory over No. 10 Georgia, Alabama’s performance faltered, starting with a 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt and culminating in Saturday’s blowout loss to Oklahoma.
“It was 2010 the last time Alabama lost three games. That was after their national championship season,”
Finebaum said during The Matt Barrie Show.
“Let me cut to the chase. It was simply inexcusable. And you can blame anyone you want, but you would be smart to start at the very top because that team did not look prepared. They didn’t look focused. They didn’t look like they had a clue what they were getting into.”
Finebaum added:
“I don’t know how that could be the case because everyone who watches football knew that Brent Venables had an elite defense. They just have no offense because of all the wide receivers being hurt and in chaos at quarterback. And I just don’t understand it.”
DeBoer now faces significant challenges if he hopes to replicate Saban’s rebound after a similar 2010 slump, where Alabama finished 10-3 and came back stronger to win a national championship the following year.
