Nottingham Forest is eyeing a high-risk, high-reward move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale lost his starting position to David Raya last season, following a series of errors during his rare appearances. Raya’s strong performance led Arsenal to confirm his permanent transfer for £27 million on July 4.

Unwilling to spend another season as a backup, Ramsdale is open to leaving Arsenal, and the club is prepared to sell him. Arsenal has bolstered their goalkeeping options by signing Lucas Nygaard and Tommy Setford and is also interested in Wolves’ Dan Bentley.

However, they have set a steep £50 million price tag on Ramsdale, deterring potential buyers.

Nottingham Forest, having sold goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to Newcastle, is considering a loan move for Ramsdale, aiming to make him their primary starter. Despite not wanting to meet the £50 million valuation, Forest hopes Arsenal’s desperation will lead to a loan deal, with Forest covering Ramsdale’s full wages and possibly a significant loan fee.

The move is risky as waiting until late in the transfer window might leave Forest without an alternative if the deal falls through. Other clubs, like Crystal Palace, are also in the market for goalkeepers, adding pressure to Forest’s strategy. Nonetheless, Forest is ready to gamble, hoping the deal will be favorable for both clubs.
