Nottingham Forest made a more lucrative offer than Everton for Lyon defender Jake O’Brien, but the player chose Everton.

Everton is set to complete a permanent deal for the Irish international, agreeing to a €20 million fee with Lyon. Despite interest from Nottingham Forest, Wolves, and Ajax, O’Brien preferred Everton.

Nottingham Forest’s higher bid could not convince the 23-year-old to join them. O’Brien will undergo a medical on Monday and is expected to sign a five-year contract, marking his return to England after being sold by Crystal Palace to Lyon for €1 million. Lyon will retain a 10 percent sell-on clause as part of the deal.
