The Arizona Cardinals have reinstated offensive tackle Jonah Williams to their 53-man active roster after his stint on injured reserve.
This move makes the former Alabama All-American eligible to play again for the team. However, head coach Jonathan Gannon has not guaranteed Williams’ return to the starting lineup.
“We’ll kind of weigh all the variables and then decide what we think is best for the team for that game,” Gannon said. “So we’ll take it day-by-day.”
Williams, who suffered a knee injury during Arizona’s season-opening 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills on September 8, had missed nine games. He resumed practice on October 30, initiating a 21-day window for activation. With Wednesday marking the final day of that period, the Cardinals ensured his return by adding him to the active roster. Otherwise, Williams would have remained on injured reserve for the season’s remainder.
During his absence, Kelvin Beachum, Arizona’s right tackle from 2020 to 2022, reclaimed the starting role. Gannon praised Beachum’s performance, stating:
“He’s been fantastic, and he’s played extremely well.”
Williams joined the Cardinals in March, signing a two-year, $30 million contract as a free agent after playing every offensive snap at right tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2023 season.
Arizona had initially drafted Paris Johnson as their right tackle in 2023 but moved him to the left side upon acquiring Williams.
