Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney has quickly proven his worth since signing a four-year, $67 million contract during the offseason.
In just two games, McKinney has secured two interceptions, but his contributions extend beyond those numbers. Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley praised McKinney for his leadership on the field, particularly in assisting younger players like rookie Javon Bullard.
“He’s more than just those two picks,” Hafley said. “He’s a versatile player who excels in run support, coverage, and deep zones, and he’s showing great leadership as a defensive captain.”
McKinney, who joined the Packers after four seasons with the New York Giants, spoke about his new mindset in an interview with FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams” show.
“I’m super locked-in and focused. I didn’t come here just to make the playoffs; I want to win the big one,” McKinney stated.
He also emphasized his goal of helping his teammates improve and creating opportunities for the defense.
McKinney is tied with Buffalo Bills cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram for the most interceptions so far this season. The Packers, leading the NFL in interceptions with five, aim to maintain this defensive momentum when they face the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.
Despite Tennessee’s struggles with turnovers, McKinney remains cautious, acknowledging the potential for improvement from their opponents.
