According to Ivan Ljubicic, the former coach of Roger Federer, Jannik Sinner’s remarkable “absurd consistency” places him in a better position for long-term success compared to his rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Ljubicic, who was a world No. 3, emphasized that Sinner’s current form and achievements in 2024 are significant indicators of his potential.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz have excelled this season, each securing two Grand Slam titles; Sinner triumphed at the Australian Open and the US Open, while Alcaraz claimed victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. However, Sinner’s overall performance has been superior, as he is set to finish the year as the ATP year-end No. 1. With seven titles to his name, including two Grand Slams and two ATP Masters 1000 events, Sinner has established a commanding 4,800-point lead over Alcaraz in the ATP Rankings.
Ljubicic pointed out that while Alcaraz can be intimidating when he’s in top form, Sinner’s unique blend of consistency and skill sets him apart.
“The numbers speak for themselves; he is dominating right now. We hope for the Italian public that he will do so for as long as possible,” Ljubicic remarked during an interview with Sky Sports Italia.
He further explained that even though both players have won two Slams each, Sinner’s points total demonstrates his exceptional consistency, a hallmark of great champions.
“Jannik and Carlos are very different as players, in character and style of play; Jannik is more consistent,” he noted.
While Sinner may not possess the flashy shots typical of Alcaraz, Ljubicic believes his game is nearly perfect, which adds to his strength.
In the Shanghai Masters final, Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic, marking his third consecutive win over the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Ljubicic praised Sinner’s humility and approach, stating:
“He wins a tournament like Shanghai, beating Djokovic in the final, and raises his arms as if to say, ‘tomorrow is another day and we start again.’ With this mentality, he got where he is today.”
