In their final game in Las Vegas, the Boston Celtics were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers, 103-98, in the Summer League’s consolation round, ending their campaign with a 2-3 record.
Despite the loss, several players delivered noteworthy performances that provide hope for the future.
Jordan Walsh led the Celtics with a team-high 18 points. After a tough start to the Summer League, the former Arkansas Razorback showed resilience by hitting three of his first six three-point attempts. Walsh finished the game shooting 7/14 from the field, including 4/8 from beyond the arc, and added seven rebounds and two blocks.
This performance highlighted Walsh’s potential and determination as he prepares for the upcoming NBA season.
Baylor Scheierman also had a mixed outing, struggling with his shooting initially but refusing to back down.
Despite starting 1/8 from the field and 0/4 from three-point range, Scheierman hit a crucial three-pointer from 30 feet out to cut the deficit and another to tie the game at 96 with just over a minute remaining. He ended the game with 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, demonstrating his ability to contribute even when his shot isn’t falling.
Anton Watson, another key player for Boston, continued to impress with his aggressive offensive play.
Watson scored 15 points on 6/12 shooting and provided three assists. He showcased his versatility by making a euro-step layup and dishing out smart passes, including an assist to Jaelen House for a three-pointer after an excellent fake in the corner.
Drew Peterson had a challenging game, going 0/4 from beyond the arc, but his overall contributions were valuable.
Peterson’s efforts included quality passes, offensive rebounds, and a two-handed dunk, reflecting his potential despite the shooting struggles.
Jaelen House was another standout, consistently utilizing his speed and craftiness to penetrate the defense.
House finished with 17 points, including five free throws, and led the team with six assists. His performance throughout the Summer League has earned him consideration for a training camp invite and a spot on the Maine Celtics’ roster.
Overall, while the Celtics’ Summer League ended on a sour note, the individual performances of players like Walsh, Scheierman, Watson, and House offer promising signs for the future.
These young talents have shown they possess the skills and determination needed to compete at a higher level, providing hope and excitement for the team’s development moving forward.
