Freddie Freeman’s stellar performance in the 2024 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers almost never materialized.

Freeman, who spent years as the face of the Atlanta Braves, initially intended to remain with the team after their 2021 World Series win. However, the Braves lost their star first baseman due to miscommunication and mishandling by his former agent, Casey Close.

Freeman’s free agency saga spanned over a year, during which both the Braves and Freeman expressed mutual interest in continuing their partnership. The Braves made multiple offers, gradually raising their five-year proposals from $125 million to $140 million. However, Freeman insisted on a six-year contract, leading to tension between the two sides.

In March 2022, Close reportedly issued the Braves an ultimatum—accept a six-year, $175 million deal or a five-year, $165 million deal within one hour. Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos refused to comply, pivoting instead by trading for Matt Olson and signing him to an eight-year, $168 million extension.

Freeman ultimately joined the Dodgers with a six-year, $162 million contract. Though his transition to Los Angeles was emotionally challenging, Freeman embraced his new role, eventually firing Close and expressing relief after parting ways with him. His impact on the Dodgers has been undeniable, becoming a fan favorite and delivering key moments, including a walk-off grand slam in the 2024 World Series.

Now, with Los Angeles on the brink of a championship, Freeman’s journey has come full circle.
