There’s no doubt that Boston Celtics guard Derrick White deserves his spot on Team USA.

When Kawhi Leonard withdrew due to injury, White was added to the roster, but the decision was met with skepticism. USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill had to justify White’s selection, explaining why he was the right choice for the team.

White quickly proved his value during Team USA’s 103-86 victory over South Sudan. Coming off the bench, White made an impact in just over 17 minutes of play. He went 3-for-3 from the field, all from beyond the arc, contributing 10 points. Additionally, White recorded three steals, a block, an assist, and a rebound, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court.

Former NBA player and current Olympic commentator Robbie Hummel highlighted White’s performance, emphasizing how much coach Steve Kerr trusts him. Hummel praised White for doing the “little things” that complement the star-studded roster, including his defensive prowess and quick decision-making.

White’s ability to seamlessly integrate with superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry makes him a crucial asset for Team USA.

As the team heads into the quarterfinals, White’s contributions will undoubtedly continue to be vital.
