Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas is on the brink of resuming play, potentially starting a rehab assignment by the week’s end, according to Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow.
Out since mid-April, Casas has experienced a challenging recovery with various reports about his return. Initially placed on a 10-day injured list for a left rib strain, he was moved to the 60-day IL shortly after. His progress had been uncertain, but recent developments indicate improvement.
Breslow mentioned on The Greg Hill Show that Casas is now taking full batting practice, suggesting a quicker return than previously expected. Since Casas’ injury, Dominic Smith has filled in at first base, performing well with a .324 average and two home runs in his last 15 games.
Casas’ return will bolster the Red Sox’s offense, as he had six homers and a .857 OPS in 22 games before his injury.
