The Detroit Lions, poised for a strong 2024 NFL season, might face an early challenge due to an offseason injury to star running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Gibbs, who was instrumental in the Lions’ offense during his rookie season, was expected to be a key figure in their pursuit of the NFC’s top seed. Last season, he recorded impressive stats with 945 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 52 receptions for 316 yards. His contributions in the second half of the season were particularly noteworthy, with 10 touchdowns and 886 scrimmage yards across 10 games.
However, Gibbs’ offseason workouts were hampered by an injury, limiting his full participation in training camp until recently. While the Lions are optimistic that he won’t miss regular season games, his limited offseason work could lead to a slower start.
Fantasy football managers might need to exercise patience with Gibbs, as his production may not reach elite levels until later in the season. The Lions may initially lean more on David Montgomery, who had a significant workload early last season, before fully integrating Gibbs into their offensive strategy.
