Jamie Vardy has extended his contract with Leicester City until June 2025, following the club’s successful promotion to the Premier League.
Leicester City confirmed the extension on Friday, highlighting Vardy’s readiness to contribute for another season in the top flight.
The 37-year-old striker played a crucial role in Leicester’s promotion campaign, scoring 20 goals across all competitions, including 18 in the Championship.
His performance helped Leicester secure the league title and automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Vardy, a pivotal figure in Leicester’s historic 2015-16 Premier League triumph and the winner of the 2019-20 Golden Boot, expressed his excitement about continuing his career with the club. Despite his age, Vardy insists he feels fit and is eager to add to his impressive tally of 190 goals for Leicester.
“I’m delighted with the numbers I achieved last season, but there’s still more to come,” Vardy stated. “I’ve always said age is just a number. My legs feel fine, so I’ll continue until they say ‘that’s it, game over.’ That day will come, but it’s not now.”
Looking ahead to the new season, Vardy emphasized his enthusiasm for playing in the Premier League again.
“We look forward to another season in the Premier League and seeing what we can do. One hundred percent, it’s the best league in the world. That’s where you want to be playing your football.”
In addition to his club success, Vardy also had a notable international career with England, scoring seven goals in 26 appearances.
However, he retired from international duty in 2018 after being used sparingly during the World Cup.
With his contract extension, Vardy remains a central figure for Leicester City as they prepare for the challenges of the Premier League, aiming to build on their remarkable achievements and Vardy’s enduring legacy.
