San Francisco 49ers extends Jauan Jennings Contract worth over $10.5m

The San Francisco 49ers have solidified their wide receiver corps by signing Jauan Jennings to a contract extension, even as they navigate ongoing negotiations with standout receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

The 49ers announced the extension for Jennings on Wednesday, securing his services through the 2025 season. The new deal, valued at a guaranteed $10.5 million with a potential maximum of $15.4 million over two years, follows Jennings’ status as a restricted free agent this offseason.

Jennings, who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Tennessee, has had a noteworthy journey. Initially waived as a rookie, he found a place on the practice squad before earning a permanent spot on the active roster in 2021.

Since then, he has played a key role for the team, particularly highlighted by his performance in the recent Super Bowl.

Despite sitting out voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) earlier this offseason due to contract uncertainties, Jennings returned to team activities on Wednesday after finalizing his extension.

His contributions last season included 19 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown over 13 games, bringing his career totals to 78 catches for 963 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jennings’ value was underscored during the 49ers’ recent Super Bowl appearance, where he was pivotal in both of the team’s touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs.

He threw a touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey and later caught a touchdown pass from Brock Purdy. Although the 49ers eventually lost 25-22, Jennings’ performance solidified his role as a critical offensive asset.

Brandon Aiyuk contract extension progress.

The focus in San Francisco shifts to Brandon Aiyuk, who remains absent from OTAs as he pursues a contract extension.

Aiyuk, aiming for a deal surpassing Amon-Ra St. Brown’s four-year, $120 million contract with the Detroit Lions, is set to earn $14.1 million next season under his fifth-year option.

The 49ers are hopeful for a resolution that will secure Aiyuk’s long-term future with the team.

As the offseason progresses, the 49ers’ strategy appears to be ensuring depth and stability at the wide receiver position, balancing immediate needs with future planning to maintain their competitive edge.
