Jon Rahm, a leading figure in the LIV Golf circuit, has passionately defended the inclusion of golf in the Olympic Games.
Set to represent Spain alongside David Puig at the upcoming Paris Olympics, Rahm described competing in the Games as “a dream come true.” He emphasized the honor of adding to his country’s medal tally, stating:
“To be able to add to your country’s medal count is something special.”
Rahm addressed critics who question golf’s significance in the Olympics. He acknowledged that many golfers did not grow up considering Olympic participation a possibility, but highlighted the unique prestige of winning a gold medal.
“It is one of the most impressive feats in sport. To win a gold medal is something only a few people in history are able to do,” Rahm remarked.
Responding to the argument that the Olympics should be reserved for amateur athletes, Rahm pointed out that many Olympic greats, such as Michael Phelps and LeBron James, are professionals. He also mentioned Neymar’s Olympic success to reinforce his stance:
“If the Olympics want to have an impactful sport with viewership, you will have to have the most impactful players.”
While Rahm’s focus is currently on winning his first individual title at the LIV Golf event at JCB Country and Golf Club, his enthusiasm for the Olympics remains clear.
He sees the Games as a significant milestone in his career and a special opportunity to represent his country on one of the world’s biggest stages.
