Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City are vying for Bayern Munich’s star midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who is poised for a summer exit.

Kimmich, who has been with Bayern since 2015 and won 20 major trophies, has only a year left on his contract. Despite Bayern’s efforts, he has not agreed to a new deal and is reportedly eager for a new challenge.

Sky Sports Germany reports that Kimmich, 29, is open to running down his contract and leaving on a free transfer next summer, but Bayern Munich, now managed by Vincent Kompany, prefers to sell him this year to avoid losing him without a fee. Top European clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, are also interested in securing Kimmich’s services.

Liverpool sees Kimmich as a crucial addition to their midfield, despite their recent overhaul in that area. Arsenal views him as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey, who is expected to move to Saudi Arabia. Manchester City, having missed out on Lucas Paqueta, are also keen, especially given Pep Guardiola’s previous working relationship with Kimmich at Bayern.

Kimmich’s departure seems inevitable as his relationship with Bayern has soured, notably since his decision not to receive the COVID-19 vaccination in 2021, which led to significant public and internal backlash.

Currently on international duty with Germany at Euro 2024, Kimmich is expected to engage in transfer discussions post-tournament. The race to secure his signature is intensifying, with Bayern aiming to capitalize on his departure this summer.
