In a candid discussion with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge at The Masters, new Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins reflected on the challenges ahead in the NFL, particularly concerning the dominant San Francisco 49ers.
Joined by 49ers tight end George Kittle, Cousins shared his enthusiasm about his fresh start in Atlanta, praising his new teammates and coaching staff.
“I’m really enjoying getting to know the teammates, really good guys and talented players and talented coaches so I couldn’t be happier about where we landed and where we are and what we have to look forward to,” he said.
However, he acknowledged the formidable obstacle posed by Kittle and his team, admitting,
“But everyone’s kind of looking up to the Niners right now in the NFC [points to Kittle]. So, if we’re going to go anywhere, we’ve got to get through this guy [Kittle] and his group.”
Cousins, who suffered an Achilles rupture eight games into the 2023 season, was a top target in the recent NFL free-agency, ultimately securing a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons.
Atlanta hopes Cousins will leverage the team’s offensive strengths to climb the NFC ranks.
Meanwhile, the 49ers, with Kittle and emerging star quarterback Brock Purdy, continue to be a powerhouse, boasting appearances in four consecutive NFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls in recent years.
